Webinar: Reducing Climate Impacts – Making
Water and Sewer Systems More Sustainable with
PVC Pipe
Ideal for Municipal Officials, Utility
Managers & Engineers, and Engineering
Consultants
PVC
Pipe Association (PVCPA) staff will review
PVCPA’s recently updated environmental product
declaration (EPD) for PVC water, sewer and
PVCO pipes. The PVC pipe industry has
undertaken the only life cycle assessment (LCA)
and environmental performance review of
underground piping in North America conducted
according to the International Organization
for Standardization (ISO) 14040 series
standards, including publication of an EPD
which complies with ISO 14025 standards and
was independently certified by global health
organization NSF International. The
peer-reviewed LCA evaluates the
cradle-to-grave sustainability of commonly
used pipe materials, including PVC, concrete,
ductile iron, and HDPE pipes over a 100-year
service period – information which can help
utilities assess and minimize water quality
risks as well as reduce operations,
maintenance, and repair costs. Additionally,
it shows how PVC pipes can play an important
role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The
ISO methodology and its requirements for LCA’s
are the most rigorous and transparent in the
world, providing a trusted and transparent
resource intended to assist utility
professionals in their efforts to improve the
sustainability of their underground
infrastructure. The LCA and EPD confirm that
PVC water and sewer pipe have the lowest
carbon footprint and environmental impacts
compared to alternative piping materials.
Designers and owners must rely on accurate
pipe material information to make the best
environmental and economical choices. Pipe
material selection affects the sustainability
analysis of pipeline projects, and their life
cycle costs. In this webinar you will learn
how the PVC pipe LCA and EPD can be used by
engineers, planners, reviewers, designers,
regulators, capital improvement professionals,
sustainability officials, environmental
managers and operators of water, wastewater,
and storm drainage piping systems.
Participants will also receive information on
how to use life cycle thinking in the design,
installation and operation of water and
systems. All attendees will receive a free
copy of the Life Cycle Assessment of PVC
Water and Sewer Pipe and Comparative
Sustainability Analysis of Pipe Materials
report.
This one-hour webinar will cover the following
topics:
-
Defining sustainable infrastructure
-
Introduction to life cycle thinking for
pipe system design
-
How to use LCA data for water and sewer
systems
-
Project planning and asset management
-
Hidden factors that decrease pipeline
sustainability
-
The importance of applying a 100-year
use-phase for your piping
-
Friction factor and pumping efficiency
analysis of different pipe materials
-

-
Why traditional definitions of pipe
service life should be re-evaluated
-
Why recycled material is only a single
attribute of a pipe’s environmental
impacts

of Gasketed PVC Pipe
The reference book for this educational
seminar is the new Contractor's Guide,
which is the most concise, authoritative
publication available for the installation
of gasketed-joint PVC pipes and fittings.
Webinar registrants will be mailed a FREE
copy. Written and sponsored by PVCPA, the
guide comes complete with practical tables
and figures that helps users to be more
effective and efficient at installing PVC
piping systems, reducing potential
pipeline problems and helping to ensure
optimum system performance. It can also
serve as a reference document prior to
undertaking a pipeline project.
Recommended for Local Underground Pipeline
Installation Contractors
It is highly
recommended that local water and sewer pipe
installation contractors participate in this
training seminar. Utilities are encouraged
to forward this email to their local
underground pipeline contractors and have
them register. The guide is also useful to
utility crews involved in installation or
maintenance of PVC water or sewer systems.
The easy-to-use, "reversible book" format
provides two valuable guides in one and
assists readers to quickly access the
information they are seeking.
The 60-minute webinar will cover the
following topics:

Webinar: Review of Sample Specifications for
PVC Water and Sewer Pipe Application
Ideal for Water and Sewer Utilities,
Consulting Engineers, and Contractors
PVC
pipe is used in many municipal applications
including potable water, gravity sewer, and
sewer force mains. All PVC piping and fittings
products have standards that utilities,
consultants and contractors should be familiar
with. In addition, many utilities are updating
their material specifications so that they are
in line with the latest PVC pipe standards.
PVC Pipe Association (PVCPA) engineers will
provide an in-depth review of PVC pipe water
and sewer pipe specifications as well as
recommendations on how they can best be
applied in pipe system design, installation,
and post-construction testing. The webinar
will be useful to current users as well as
those considering PVC for the first time.
Utilities can use the information provided to
develop new PVC pipe specifications, update
current ones, or for upcoming projects. Using
up-to-date specifications and standards helps
maximize PVC pipe performance and enables it
to better meet project and system conditions.
This 30-minute webinar covers the following
topics:
-
ASTM and AWWA standards
-
PVC pipe classifications
-
PVC C900 and C909 water pipe

Webinar: Considerations for Material
Comparisons: PVC vs. Clay for Sewer Pipe
Applications
Ideal for Utilities, Engineering Consultants,
Contractors and Government Agencies
Today's
marketplace offers North American utilities a
wide variety of piping to choose from. Pipe
materials can differ significantly in
performance capabilities and in the
applications for which they are suitable. As a
result, making direct comparisons between pipe
materials can be challenging for utilities.
This webinar is the fourth in a series offered
by the PVC Pipe Association (PVCPA) which
examine different pipe materials and their
properties, design methodologies, installation
requirements, and long-term performance in
various applications. PVCPA engineers will
provide comparative information on these
topics for PVC and vitrified clay pipe (VCP)
in gravity sewer applications that users of
both products will find helpful and that will
enable utilities to make better informed
decisions for their projects
This one-hour webinar covers the following
topics:
-
History and background of PVC and VCP
sewer pipe
-
Hydraulic performance of PVC and VCP pipe
-
Design considerations for PVC and VCP
-
Flexible vs. rigid pipe
-
Installation requirements for PVC and VCP
